Police have arrested Sajeni Wibess, over a video recording allegedly published on social media which authorities say promotes violence, hate speech, and attacks on public institutions.

According to police, the suspect was arrested by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Lilongwe and is currently being held at Lingadzi Police Station pending further investigations.

Peter Mukhito, Malawi’s Minister of Homeland Security, has commended police for what he described as swift action.

Mukhito has reiterated government’s zero tolerance towards hate speech, tribal incitement, misinformation, and any attempts aimed at spreading fear or destabilising communities.

He has also urged Malawians to remain peaceful, avoid sharing inflammatory content, and continue promoting unity and national cohesion.
