Kapondamgaga Still in Custody Despite Court Order for Release

Police are still holding former State Residences Chief of Staff Prince Kapondamgaga despite a court order issued yesterday directing his release.
Kapondamgaga was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the Amaryllis Hotel deal.
His lawyer, Donvan Silungwe, said yesterday that he had served the court order on Area 30 Police Headquarters and the Financial Crimes Unit at Area 6 in Lilongwe to facilitate his client’s release.
However, Silungwe said this morning that Kapondamgaga had not yet been released.
He stressed that it is the government’s duty to comply with court orders and uphold the rights of its citizens, even when it disagrees with a court decision.
