Woman Arrested For Allegedly Abandoning 2 Month Old Baby in Bangwe

Bangwe Police have arrested a 22-year-old woman, Eliza Joseph, for allegedly abandoning her two-month-old baby at Bangwe Health Centre in Blantyre.
Bangwe Police publicist, Samuel Kadyole, said Joseph allegedly left the baby at the health facility on Monday evening.
The infant was discovered by a security guard who heard a baby crying while reporting for night duty.
The child was later taken to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital after efforts to locate the mother failed.
Kadyole said the woman was later spotted near the scene and was apprehended by health centre authorities before being handed over to police.
Meanwhile, police and hospital officials are arranging a psychological assessment to establish the circumstances behind the incident.
