Blessings Nkhuwa, a 30-year-old mechanic, has died at a lodge in Lumbadzi, Lilongwe, after allegedly consuming tablets believed to enhance sexual performance.
Lumbadzi Police Public Relations Officer, Felix Kwinyani, said on 8 June, Nkhuwa booked a room at the lodge with a female companion, who is yet to be identified. A short while later, he reportedly started gasping for air and was rushed to Blessings Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Kwinyani said police recovered two boxes of tablets suspected to be sexual performance enhancers, Kifaru 50 and Kifaru 100. The Kifaru 50 box was empty, while the Kifaru 100 box, which originally contained three tablets, had one tablet missing.
The body was taken to Kamuzu Central Hospital for a post-mortem examination, during which various tissue samples were collected and submitted for toxicological analysis to help determine the exact cause of death.
