A 30-year-old mechanic has died at a lodge in Lumbadzi, Lilongwe, after allegedly consuming tablets believed to enhance sexual performance.

Lumbadzi Police spokesperson Felix Kwinyani said the incident occurred on June 8, 2026, when Blessings Nkhuwa checked into a lodge with a female companion whose identity has not yet been established.

According to police, Nkhuwa reportedly began gasping for air shortly after arriving at the lodge.

He was rushed to Blessings Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Officers who attended the scene recovered two boxes of tablets suspected to be sexual performance enhancers, identified as Kifaru 50 and Kifaru 100.

Kwinyani said the Kifaru 50 package was found empty, while one tablet was missing from the Kifaru 100 pack, which originally contained three tablets.

Police have not yet confirmed whether the tablets contributed to Nkhuwa’s death.

The body was taken to Kamuzu Central Hospital, where a post-mortem examination was conducted. Medical personnel collected tissue samples for toxicological analysis to determine the exact cause of death.

Investigations are ongoing as authorities await the results of the toxicology tests.

Nkhuwa hailed from Mthinda Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kalolo in Lilongwe District.
