Police in Nkhotakota have arrested two suspects in connection with the theft of a nuclear density gauge machine valued at K37 million belonging to CR20 Construction Company, which is rehabilitating the Nkhotakota–Salima section of the M5 Road.
Nkhotakota Police Station Public Relations Officer Chisomo Chuma identified the suspects as Samuel Mchochoma of Mangulama Village, Traditional Authority Mkanda in Mulanje District, and Jester Dyson of Genala Village, Traditional Authority Mwadzama in Nkhotakota District.
Chuma said the company had received three new nuclear density gauge machines in December last year, which were kept in a storeroom.
He explained that on February 27, 2026, an engineer went to collect one of the machines for use at the construction site but discovered that one of the density gauges had been stolen from its plastic storage case.
Following investigations, police arrested the two suspects, who are expected to appear before court soon to answer charges of breaking and theft.
The stolen machine is valued at K37 million.
