Toddler Dies After Being Run Over by Father’s Vehicle in Kasungu

A one-year, 11-month-old girl has died after she was accidentally run over by her father’s vehicle at Bua 3 Residential Area in Kasungu.

Kasungu Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Miracle Hauli said the tragic incident occurred yesterday at around 9:00 a.m. as the child’s parents were preparing to leave their home.

According to Hauli, the parents had boarded their vehicle, but the father was unaware that the toddler, identified as Mirabell Banda, had moved underneath the vehicle. As he drove off, he accidentally ran over the child.

Mirabell sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to Bua Health Centre, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Following the incident, police have appealed to parents and guardians to ensure young children are closely supervised, particularly when vehicles are being moved, to help prevent similar tragedies.

The deceased hailed from Zembeni Village under Traditional Authority Santhe in Kasungu District.
