Police in Bangwe, Blantyre, have arrested a 48-year-old man, Mike Phiri, for allegedly stabbing his former wife, 33-year-old Madalo Moffati, to death after she reportedly refused to reconcile with him.
Bangwe Police spokesperson Sub-Inspector Sam Kadyole confirmed that the incident occurred on 12 July 2026 in the Namatapa area of Bangwe Township.
According to Kadyole, Phiri followed his ex-wife, whom he had separated from in 2025, to her workplace in Mpingwe, where the two reportedly became involved in an argument.
“The argument attracted the attention of the deceased’s employer, who intervened and sent Phiri away. However, while he was leaving, Phiri allegedly produced a knife and stabbed Madalo on the shoulder,” said Kadyole.
Madalo sustained severe injuries and died as a result of the attack.
Members of the public who witnessed the incident apprehended Phiri and handed him over to police.
He is expected to appear before court to answer a charge of murder.
