Police in Thyolo have launched a manhunt for the parents of two young children whose bodies were discovered floating in Malamulo Dam on July 20, 2026.

Thyolo Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Blessing Rabson identified the victims as four-year-old Martha James and one-year-old Smart James.

Rabson said preliminary investigations indicate that the children’s parents had a domestic dispute two days before the bodies were discovered. Since then, both parents have reportedly disappeared from the village.

According to police, women collecting firewood near Malamulo Dam spotted the children’s bodies floating in the water and immediately alerted authorities.

Detectives from Thyolo Police visited the scene and transported the bodies to Thyolo District Hospital for post-mortem examinations to establish the exact cause of death.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the children’s parents, who remain at large, as investigations into the suspected murders continue.
