Four people were lucky to have escaped alive after being suspected to have been thugs who have been terrorizing Tukombo area in Nkhatabay.
Reports say on Tuesday 24 April, the four went to Tukombo area in the district by boat with the aim of fishing. After fishing, they decided to visit Tukombo Trading Centre for a bit of refreshment where they got intercepted by vigilant mob who detained them.
It is said the four were suspected to have been thugs that have been causing insecurity in the community and therefore the mob wanted to have them killed.
Luckily, police which were called by a head teacher at Tukombo Girls School arrived at the scene and rescued the four men.
However, it was still hard for the police to peacefully take the suspected thugs from the scene as community members stoned the police vehicle which got its windscreen shattered.
Meanwhile, police are still advising the general public not to take laws into their hands but report all suspicious people to them.
