JB calls for efficiency in civil service

President Joyce Banda has urged the civil service to be efficient in implementing donor-funded projects so that Malawians enjoy the goodwill the country is getting from its development partners.

Banda was speaking in Ntcheu on Saturday where she went on a Safe Motherhood campaign.

She urged the civil service to make sure that the resources the country is getting from all donors trickle down to all Malawians.

“We are told that our civil service is the best in the world.

“My appeal is that our civil service, as efficient as it is, should move together with us so that people in the villages should not see any delay in seeing the benefits of the assistance we are getting,” Banda said.

She urged the civil service to be determined in their work so that no money is returned to the donors for not being used.

“We have all the experts in government. Satan should not catch up with them, so that they don’t work with determination.

“We can get the money, but if those to implement the programmes are not doing anything you will, for instance, find that out of $150 million you have only used $50 million, because people not working,” Banda said.

At the function, the president elevated Traditional Authority Kwataine, whom she lauded for an important role he is playing in promoting safe motherhood in his area, to Senior Chief.
