Chilumpha finally out of UTM alliance, to present nomination papers to MEC on Thursday

Former Vice President Dr. Cassim Chilumpha who is also President of Assembly for Democracy and Development has pulled from both Tikonze alliance and the party entered with the United Transformation Movement (UTM) due to disagreement over runningmate.

Chilumpha confirmed the development in a statement made available to faceofmalawi reporter.

“This communiqué serves to notify the general public that the ADD party and I have decided to pull out from both Tikonze alliance and the alliance we reached with UTM. This has resulted from failure by the UTM to honour some of the terms of the agreement. Suffices to say that we have written MEC chair requesting change of dates as to when the ADD will present its nomination papers. MEC has written us indicating that a new date will be allocated.

“We apologies for any inconvenience this alliance issue might have caused to our followers and party members,” said Chilumpha.

Meanwhile Chilumpha will present nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral commission (MEC) on Thursday afternoon.

MEC Director of Media and Public Relations Sangwani Mwafulilwa confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

He said Chilumpha asked for more time to rectify some issues.
