MEC Asks Political Parties to Directly Send Queries to ‘Complaints Desk’

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Justice Jane Ansa has asked political parties to utilize complaints desk if they have grievance instead of informing journalists.

In her remarks Ansa said if complaints are directed to the complaints desk, the grievances are addressed immediately.

“All official complaints are written and forwarded to our complaints desk for addressing. We cannot address issues which are in newspaper but have not officially been sent to us,” said Ansa.

She added that currently the commission has received numerous complaints.

Some of the complaints received are missing of names of candidates on ballot papers and that some candidates were campaigning after the closure of campaign window.

Meanwhile Ansa has assured the general public that the commission will address all the complaints received before the final announcement of the official results.

The complaints desk is situated at the MEC national tally center in COMESA hall, Blantyre.
