Police officers accused of raping women, girls in Msundwe: MPS institute investigations

The Malawi Police Service has instituted an investigation on raping of girls and women by law enforcers M’bwatalika, Msundwe and Mpingu Trading Centre in the capital Lilongwe.

Residents of the trading centres told a civil society organization that the officers raped women and girls when the law enforcers were deployed to the area to arrest suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of the police officer.

The news has attracted public outcry with many Malawians demanding for the arrest of the suspected police officers.

Due to pressure, the Malawi Police Service has instituted at investigation on the matter. This has been confirmed in a statement released on Thursday signed by National Police Spokesperson James Kadadzera made available to faceomofmalawi reporter.

According to Kadzera, the inquiry team is headed by Commissioner Mrs Arlene Baluwa.
