Old Mutual Malawi holds family day with a call to conserve the environment

Old Mutual Malawi, one of the leading insurance Companies in the country has urged its staff members to take a leading role in conserving the environment.

The call was made on Saturday during a Family Day commemoration, an annual event which happened in all the three regions and in Blantyre the event to place at Moneymen Ground in Nancholi Township under the theme: “The role of the family in conserving the environment”.

Speaking to the press Old Mutual Malawi Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager Patience Chatsika said the company holds the event annually to help our employees to have time outside work to relax and know each other.

“As Old Mutual Malawi we believe we are responsible business and one of our call area in which we show how responsible we are is being responsible to the employees so we know our employees are always busy at work so we put aside a day in year so that people can relax and get to know each other as staff members of Old Mutual,” said Chatsika.

She added: This day helps in productivity of work because besides the staff having always all the time thoughts about the stresses from work, it also helps them relax and so that they can rejuvenate for the next day.”

When press as to why Old Mutual Malawi came up with the theme for this year, Chatsika said: “We have chosen this theme to make our staff know of what is happening and also stress that as Old Mutual also as members of staff they can take part in conserving the environment. For example we are teaching members of staff on how to teach others on things like planting trees so that we can conserve the environment.”

“So as employees we feel like stating from our homes in conserving the environment by at-least planting a tree and in so doing we will make an impact in the society.”

On his part one of the workers at MPICO, the company which is under Old Mutual identified as Saidi Lifa held the company for coming up with such a day.
He also urged other companies in the country to emulate it.

The event was spiced up with different activities such as dancing activities for kids and adults, egg throws, Tag of War, Bawo, Chess and a poetic performance by Harold Malata, a staff member for Old Mutual.
