Elections Case Adjourned to 3 pm

The last witness for Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Daudi Sulemani has completed his simulation in the presidential elections case which is being heard at the Constitution Court in Lilongwe.

When presenting his evidence using gadgets, Sulemani demonstrated how Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) deleted data in its server, and that the electoral body announced results before the official results were sent to the main tally center.

Representing the electoral body, Attorney General Kalekeni Kaphale is expected to start cross examining Sulemani from 3 pm, following Kaphale’s request to the court to give him more time to consult other IT experts to help him understand some of the terms.

MCP leader Lazarus Chakwera and his counterpart Saulos Chilima United Transformation Movement (UTM) are seeking nullification of the presidential poll results as they are arguing that the electoral body declared wrong candidate as the winner of the elections.

On May 27, MEC declared Peter Mutharika winner of the disputed elections seconded by MCP’s Lazarus Chakwera and Saulos Chilima of UTM on the third position.
