Heads of Missions Appeal to Malawians to Respect Court Verdict

Heads of Missions in Malawi have urged petitioners, respondents as well as political parties and their supporters to respect the decision of the court in the presidential election case.

The appeal is contained in a joint statement issued this afternoon by heads of missions from the US, UK, Japan, Norway, Germany, Ireland and the entire EU.

The statement urges all political leaders to come together and lead an inclusive dialogue, in line with the National Peace Architecture report of 2013 that addresses broad concerns held by the Malawian people and that supports a common understanding for the future.

The envoys acknowledge the anticipation and tension surrounding the impending release of the Constitutional Court decision on the elections case on Monday next week.

It further says the Heads of Mission reaffirm their support for Malawi and its citizens as the nation forge a democratic future.

The statement has been signed by the ambassador of the United States, the British High Commissioner, the Ambassadors of Japan, Norway, Germany and Ireland, the Head of delegation of the EU alongside the EU heads of Mission in Malawi.
