Three Arrested for Encroachment and Killing Endangered Species

Police in Salima have arrested three men for entering a protected area and endangering protected species.

The three were arrested at Chitala in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Khombedza in Salima district on Thursday.
Salima police Public Relations Officer Sub inspector Jacob Khembo identified the suspects as, Diaz Siyeni Dzonzi, Pedro Kampala and Elias Kazembe.

“We were tipped by well-wishers that the three and their colleague Nelson Kachiwawa, who is on the run, on the night of March, 17, entered Kuti Game Reserve and killed two bush bucks.”

“Following the tip, a team of police officers from Criminal Investigation Department arrested the three at Chitala and when searched, they were found with three greener rifles, nine live bullets, three hides of bush bucks and four torches.” Said Khembo.

The three are being charged with the offence of entering a protected area and endangering protected species contradicting section 1 as read with section 110 of the National Parks and Wildlife Act and are expected to appear in court soon.

Diaz Siyeni Dzonzi 60, hails from Dzonzi village in the area of TA Chiwere in Dowa, Pedro Kampala 48, comes from Gomba village in the area of TA Mkukula in Dowa district while Elias Kazembe comes from Yakobe village in the area of TA Kalonga in Salima district.
