HRDC Says Not Intimidated by Arrests

Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) chairperson Timothy Mtambo has said the coalition will not be intimidated by their arrests.

Mtambo said this during a press briefing the coalition held this afternoon.

According to Mtambo, they will continue fighting for the rights of Malawians.

Mtambo added that Malawi Police leadership is rotten and needs to be cleansed.

HRDC continues to call for resignation of Jane Ansah and has asked the President to follow Public Appointments Committee’s recommendation to fire her and other Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) commissioners as they are incapable of conducting an election.

Mtambo said it is unfortunate that thus far, there hasn’t been any action on police officers who allegedly raped and assaulted women in Nsundwe, Lilongwe.

They are also questioning recent changes that President Peter Mutharika has made including hiring a new army commander
