Chitipa fracas update: 15 people arrested

Police in Chitipa have arrested 15 people in connection to the riots that happened in the district.

Chitipa Police Gladwell Simwaka confirmed of the arrest in an interview with state controlled Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).

According to Simwaka, the 15 are suspected to have been part of the mob that held protests demanding the release of two murder suspects.

The running battles between the community members and the police resulted in the damage of police houses.

However, despite business coming to a standstill for hours, no damage of business property was recorded.

The police have since urged people to respect the law, saying mob justice will not be tolerated
