Blantyre Residents Demand Examination Of Water by BWB Following Contamination Fears

Blantyre residents are demanding a thorough examination of water supplied by the Blantyre Water Board (BWB) following fears of contamination.

This follows the discovery of a human body by BWB inspectors at the Ndirande Malabada plant on Thursday last week.

Residents around the area are shocked with the incident as the police and BWB are giving conflicting statements on the incident.

In a statement, the board’s spokesperson Evelyn Khonje claims that the chamber where the body was found is not directly linked with water supply.

According to Khonje, the chamber is a concrete casing of the valve and the water is safe for consumption as it is always disinfected by chlorine.

She also assures the residents that the water is tested before distribution and an investigation is underway on the incident.
