MEC Says Satisfied with Voters Registration Turn Out

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) insists it is satisfied with the turn out of new voters in its registration centres.
The registration continues despite the Covid-19 concerns as the country now has fourth confirmed positive cases.
The exercise commenced on 4th April and according Director of media relations at the Electoral body, Sangwani Mwafulirwa, the Commission remains upbeat that more people will register.
The first phase runs until 17th April and is taking place.
Mwafulirwa has since urged more Malawians to grace the centres to register in the first phase which runs until 17th April.
Meanwhile, an electoral stakeholder Malawi Electoral Support Network (MESN) has said there is need to clear all uncertainties surrounding the fresh presidential election before proceeding with the preparation for the polls.
In an interview, Steve Duwa -chairperson for MESN has attributed the low turn out to lack of proper civic education, and the uncertainties surrounding the holding of the fresh election.
He said at the moment there is no CSOs holding civic education and monitoring the registration exercise, something he says needs to be addressed.
