President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has restructured the Covid-19 cabinet committee and will now be known as Presidential Taskforce & will include professors of health who will be reporting to the president directly.
President Mutharika announced this during the State of the Nation addressed aired on state controlled Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) on Tuesday night.
According to Mutharika, the new committee will also include Acting Malawi Congress Party leader of the opposition in Parliament Lobin Lowe.
“I direct Government to restructure what we have so far called the Cabinet Committee on Coronavirus.
“From now, it will now be called the Presidential Taskforce on Coronavirus. This Taskforce will be co-chaired by a Cabinet Minister and a Professor in Public Health. The Taskforce will directly report to me,” said Mutharika.
The complete taskforce will be announced soon by Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC).
