Mpinganjira’s Judge Shopping Case to Resume

The country’s graft bursting body, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has indicated that it is still waiting for the High Court Registrar to set a date for the commencement of Thom Mpinganjira’s case.

Mpinganjira a business mogul was arrested by the ACB late last year for allegedly being involved in trying to bribe constitution court judges who presided over the high profile presidential elections case.

ACB Senior Public Relations Officer, Egrita Ndala has since told Kulinji.com that the Bureau has concluded its investigations into the case and is waiting for the High Court to set a date.

“We concluded everything about the case and we are still waiting for the courts to set the date for commencement of trial and they will be in good position to comment on that,” she said.

High Court registrar, Agness Patemba says that the case has been affected by COVID-19 restrictions.

“For now I can’t say when the case will be given a date, because the Chief Justice issued a directive on how to handle cases during COVID-19 and when we are only attending to injunctions, judicial review, bail applications and others but not full trial,” she explained.

She further added that, they are continuing monitoring the situation on the ground and when the situation improves a date for the trial will be set.
