Chiefs Justice Andrew Nyirenda Asks Newly Appointed MEC Chair, Commissioners to Serve the Public Interest

Newly sworn-in commissioners of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) have been challenged to refrain from serving an individual instead of working constitutionally and in public interest.
Chief Justice, Andrew Nyirenda shot the warning on Tuesday as the new commissioners took oath of office following their appointment on Sunday.
New MEC Chairperson, Justice Dr. Chifundo Kachale has since pledged they will register a landmark in their discharge of duties.
Malawi goes to fresh presidential poll on June 23 this year and the new commissioners have a daunting task to rebuild the Commission’s bruised reputation and eroded public trust following the nullified May 2019 presidential election.
