Suspected thief killed by angry mob in Lilongwe

An angry mob in Lilongwe has killed a man after accusing him of trying to steal from a mobile money agent.

The incident occurred on Tuesday noon at Malangalanga Garages.

It is alleged that the unidentified man went to an Airtel agent and cheated her to send K84,000 cash.

The man is said to have fled from the agent after the transaction was successfully made.

The agent shouted for help, prompting some people to apprehend him.

They assaulted and tied him up before throwing him into Lilongwe River.

Police detectives retrieved the body from the river and took it to Kamuzu Central Hospital for identification and postmortem.

Meanwhile, police have urged the public against taking the law into their hands when they apprehend suspects.
