Police in Chileka are keeping in custody Dziwani Banda, 30, for allegedly murdering his own son Christopher Banda at Jamali Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chigalu in Blantyre District.
On August 15, 2020, at around 7 o’clock in the morning, Christopher Banda (now deceased) who was four years old, was seen playing at a borehole at M’bwana village.
Then his father called him and took him to unknown place. Later in the day, the father was seen without the child.
When people asked him where he had left the child, Banda failed to give convincing response.
This prompted relatives who became suspicious to report the matter to Lilangwe Police Unit where a file of a missing person was opened.
On 16 August, 2020 in the afternoon, the body of Christopher was found buried in a well at Jamali Village.
Police visited the scene in a company of medical personnel who upon examination, confirmed the death was due to strangulation and suffocation.
The suspect was immediately arrested and is yet to appear before court to answer a murder charge.
The deceased was from M’bwana Village, Traditional Authority Chigalu in Blantyre District while the suspect is from Mkwinda Village, in the same area in Blantyre.
