Kamuzu International Airport To Re-open on 1st September, Five Months After Closure

Malawi government, through the Department of Civil Aviation, has released a statement confirming the re-opening of Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe on 1st September 2020, five months after its closure. Malawi closed its borders and airports to slow down and prevent the spread of Covid 19.

In a statement, dated 27th August 2020, reference number AICA5/2020, signed by the Acting Director of Civil Aviation; James Chakwera, Malawi will only re-open Kamuzu International as Chileka Airport shall remain closed until further notice. Government has also put measures in place to manage the inflow of people into the country.

Among others; ‘all travelers will be required to present a negative SARS Cov-2 PCR test certificate obtained within 10 days prior to arrival in Malawi. Any passenger without the said certificate will be denied entry.

All arriving passengers will be required to proceed on self-quarantine for 14 days during which time they will be followed up by Health Authorities.’
