SKC Launches Fertilizer, Seed Distribution Initiative

State vice president Saulos Chilima today presided over the launch of distribution of fertilizer and hybrid seed to vulnerable households by Yara International.

The ceremony took place at Smallholder Farmers Fertilizer Revolving Fund of Malawi (SFFRM) in Lilongwe.

Chilima has commended Yara International for rolling out the free fertilizer distribution Programme for the selected farmers saying it will help complement government’s efforts in eradicating hunger.

He says the government is already in the process of implementing the Affordable Inputs Program which will benefit about 4.2 million Smallholder farming families.

He has since warned against abuse of the programs saying the inputs need to reach the intended beneficiaries in order to fight hunger.

The Vice-President has also called on Malawians to be hardworking in order to transform the country.

At least 100, 000 vulnerable households are expected to benefit from the initiative.
