WCO Commends MRA For Fighting Corruption

The World Customs Organisation (WCO) has commended the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) for its Anti-Corruption and Integrity Promotion (A-CIP) program for customs.

A statement from MRA has revealed that WCO representatives had a virtual conference with MRA Commissioner General John Biziwick, to discuss the program. WCO confirmed the meeting, posting on their website to commend the program as timely in efforts to re-energize and embed integrity within its structures.

Bizwick outlined that the lack of integrity costs money and time, damaging the reputation of the authority and undermining the trust and respect of taxpayers. WCO represents 183 Customs administrations across the globe that collectively process approximately 98% of world trade.

On the other hand, the A-CIP Program was launched in January last year, aimed at improving the business environment for cross-border trade in selected WCO member countries by restricting corruption.
