Police in Dowa have arrested a 20-year-old man on allegationthat he defiled and impregnated his 14-year-old sister.
The suspect has been identified as Robert Bwanali from Chisonga Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mkukula in Dowa District, confirmed Sub Inspector Gladson M’bumpha, Dowa Police Public Relations Officer (PRO)
He said it is suspect that the suspect began to sleep with his sister in the month of April this year at Msimakumi Village in Traditional Authority Mkukula.
“It is alleged that the the victim’s mother stays with her three children at Msimakumi Village while the suspect is the step son who came in the village and joined them. The suspect helped the family in field work and other duties assigned to him all the time. Later, the victim wanted money to pay for Primary Leaving School Certificate Examination fee but her mother failed to source the money and the suspect produced K5000 in whichthe victim paid for her examinations. In the same month, the suspect took advantage of the absence of the victim’s parents at home and had sexual intercourse with the victim without use of condom.” Explained M’bumpha
He said after the examinations in early October this year, the victim’s mother suspected her daughter of having pregnant and upon interrogation, the victim revealed the whole scenario.
“Later, the victim was taken to police where a medical form was issued for examination and treatment. Medical examination results shown that the victim has 23 weeks old pregnant.The suspect has since been charged with defilement and he will appear before court soon to answer a charge leveled against him.” Said M’bumpha
