8 Months Old Baby Dies After Drowning in a Bucket of Water in Dowa

An 8-months-old baby has died in Dowa after drowning in a bucket of water.

The deceased has been identified as Kelvin Sandram from Mbonyera Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chiwere in the district.

On Sunday afternoon, October 25 2020, the boy was playing as the father slept on a chair inside the house while the mother was doing household chores.

Later, the mother left home to draw water at a borehole which is 200 metres away from the house but she forgot to awaken her husband to look after the child.

Whilst playing, the child climbed up the 45-litre bucket full of water and drowned.

The child was discovered by his mother after coming back from the borehole and the child was taken to Chankhungu Health Centre where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The matter was reported to police who visited the scene and witnessed the development.

Postmortem conducted at the facility revealed that death was caused by suffocation.

Meanwhile, police in the district are advising parents and guardians to take care of their children by among others, not to leave them alone to avoid such deaths.
