Mpinganjira’s bribery case to resume on Friday

Well-known business tycoon Thomson Mpinganjira is expected to appear in Court on Friday in case where he is being accused of attempting to bribe Constitutional Court Judges.

Mpinganjira is currently on remand at Chichiri Prison following bail revocation by the High Court Judge a week ago after asking for a plea bargain which was accepted by the presiding Judge.

A plea bargain is any agreement in a criminal case between the prosecutor and defendant whereby the defendant agrees to plead guilty or nolo contendere to a particular charge in return for some concession from the prosecutor.

But the state prosecutor led by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director Reyneck Matemba are against plea bargain, saying the state has strong case against Mpinganjira.

The state was expected to parade five Constitutional Court Judges who presided over the Presidential case.

Meanwhile the case will be aired live on Times Radio.
