Bushiri Says Not Seeking Political Intervention In Malawi ‘I cannot have fair trial in SA’

Leader and founder of Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has made it clear that his coming to Malawi is not aimed at seeking political intervention on his matter.

Bushiri made the clarification in a press statement made available to Face of Malawi reporter.

“I need to underline that I came to Malawi not to seek political intervention. I came to Malawi to seek justice before the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi,” clarified Bushiri.

Bushiri’s remarks are indirectly responding to what Director of Communications to the president Lazarus Chakwera, Sean Kampondeni said on Monday during the weekly press briefing.

Kampondeni, said the President is not entitled and will not favor anyone but will let the law take its course

According to Bushiri, he has a strong a belief that in Malawi’s Constitution protects every citizen including his family.

He further added that he is innocent until proven guilty adding that until now there is no court in the world that has proven him guilty.

“I am innocent until proven guilty. As of now, there is no court in the world that has proven me guilty. I may be subjected by media and public trial but I maintain my innocence until proven guilty, he said.

He therefore made it clear that he cannot face justice in South Africa.

“I cannot have a fair trial in South Africa,” Bushiri pointed out.

He added; “It is unfortunate, therefore, to have the Minister of Home Affairs in South Africa to intentionally and unfairly mislead the people of South Africa and the whole world in this regard.”

Bushiri and his wife are answering charges of fraud and money laundering in South Africa.

Before they saw their way to Malawi, the couple had spent over two weeks in police custody in the Rainbow Nation until Pretoria Magistrate granted them bail with conditions that they should never cross the boarders of the country.

Meanwhile, the couple has handed themselves to Malawi Police headquarters in the capital Lilongwe following a warrant of arrest issued against them by the International Police.
