Nankhumwa speaks out: ‘am still leader of opposition’

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa has denied claims that he has agreed to relinquish his position as leader of opposition in Parliament.

In a statement released by DPP spokesperson Brown Mpinganjira, the party said Nankhumwa made the decision after meeting party president, Peter Mutharika in Mangochi on Sunday.

“Hon Kondwani Nankhumwa has agreed to relinquish the position of Leader of Opposition and to respect the choice made by the Party of Hon Francis Kasaila as Leader of Opposition.

“That in view of the fact that there is a court case, Hon Kondwani Nankhumwa has undertaken to direct his legal team to seek an indefinite adjournment of the case to pave way for the resolution of the matter by the parties to the case through mediation using the existing structures for dispute resolution within the Party,” said Mpinganjira in the statement.

But when contacted for comment, Nankhumwa blushed off the claims.

“Indeed the meeting took place yesterday at Villa Mutharika in Mangochi where Hon Kondwani Nankhumwa met with DPP President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika but it didn’t reach a conclusion. They will meet again in the near future.

“Therefore disregard any propaganda being circulated by Brown Mpinganjira about what transpired at the meeting,” wrote Nankhumwa on his official facebook page.

Nakhumwa said official statement will be released soon.
