ACB Says Matter Of NSO Driver Mistaken For ACB Employee In The Hands Of Police

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has said it has reported to Malawi Police Service (MPS) an incident in which a National Statistics Office (NSO) driver was being followed from Ntcheu by strange people who, he later established, mistook him for an employee of the ACB.

ACB Director General, Reyneck Matemba said this yesterday during a press briefing in Lilongwe.

According to Matemba, the driver said the strangers specifically wanted to know where Charles Mchacha, former minister I the then ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) was being kept after his arrest.

Matemba, who said he did not want to link Mchacha to the incident, warned whoever could be planning anything against ACB officers that the law would  come after them ‘personally and not those sending them’.

There have reports of intimidation from officials from ACB who are handling cases involving some people for instance, former ACB top official, Issa Njauju, was brutally murdered years ago in a matter now yet to be tried in the courts soon.
