A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by Zomba Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court for defiling a 12-year-old girl.
Zomba Police Deputy Publicist, Patrick Maseko identified the conflict as Cosmas Kanthumba.
Maseko, the convict committed the offence when the victim, who was in the company, of her friend went to watch a football match.
On their way back home, they passed by Kathumba’s home who dragged the victim into his house before defiling her.
Her friend, who managed to escape, reported the incident to the victim’s mother who rushed to the scene where the victim admitted to have defiled the victim.
Appearing in court, Cosmas pleaded not guilty. However, the state paraded its witnesses who proved beyond reasonable doubts.
Magistrate Rodrick Michongwe went on to slap him with a 15 year jail term.
Kathumba hails from Makombwa Village, Traditional Authority Nsakambewa in Dowa district.
