Police in Mchinji district are keeping in custody a clinician at Mchinji District Hospital on allegation that he defiled a 7-year-old girl.
Mchinji Police Officer in Charge, George Mtetemera confirmed of the news and identified the suspect as Lovemore Phiri.
According to police, the suspect had organised a party at his house where the victim was in attendance. It is said as the party ended, Phiri, while drunk, offered to escort the young girl to her parents’ house but while on the way he found a chance to defile her.
The young girl is said to be a child to one of Phiri’s colleagues.
Meanwhile, the suspect has been arrested after an examination conducted at Mchinji District Hospital confirmed that the girl was defiled.
