CDEDI Says Demos To Take Place on Tuesday

Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative (CDEDI) in collaboration with Blantyre Small Business Operators, Kabanza Operators and Minibus Drivers and Conductors Association reveals their Tuesday demonstrations are on in Blantyre.

Among others, the groups want the Tonse administration to address an influx of illegal immigrants in the country and provide sensible cushioning economic means amid enforcement of COVID-19 preventive measures.

CDEDI Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa claims President Lazarus Chakwera and his administration seems clueless in saving majority poor from the pandemic economic shocks.

For instance, Namiwa argues Chakwera should have considered trimming his bloated cabinet and advisors and channel the resources to the pandemic fight.

On Sunday, the Malawi leader unveiled a multibillion kwacha COVID-19 strategy that includes temporary closure of schools and release of 17.5 billion kwacha for the cause.
