Mchacha pulls out of DPP’s Presidential race

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) governor for the South Charles Mchacha has pulled out of the party’s presidential race barely days after declaring interest.

During Times exclusive aired on Saturday, 23, 2021 hosted by Wander Msiska, Mchacha declared interest to contest for DPP Presidency during the party’s elective conference.

Mchacha’s interest hipped the race by bringing the number of people vying for DPP’s Presidency to 7 with the first one to declare interest being DPP Vice President for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa who is also leader of opposition.

Mchacha’s interest also attracted public attention with many questioning his education background considering the fact that he failed to clear state his education background during the interview.

But Mchacha has now made a u-turn, saying he will not contest for Presidency.

“I just said that to create hype for the convention. Though it’s my rights to stand for any position in the party, I will not stand for presidential seat during the convention, “said Mchacha.

DPP is currently rocked in leadership crisis as others are pushing for an early convention but the call is being rejected by the party President Professor Peter Mutharika.

Some people have since been fired in the party for pushing for an elective conference.
