United Democratic Front (UDF) president Atupele Muluzi has hailed government’s move to procure Coronavirus vaccine which is expected to be available in the country in March.

“I am very pleased that Government is planning for COVID-19 Vaccines,” Wrote Atupele on his official Facebook page.

Muluzi who earlier asked government to consider securing Covid-19 vaccines as the cases of the virus re escalating and number of people dying from the virus is on the rise.

“We need an urgent plan for Vaccinations. With the COVID-19 situation quickly escalating, I appeal to Government that please let us make sure that we are ahead of the game in terms of planning and thinking,” Muluzi said.

Following the government’s decision to have the vaccine in the country, Atupele has also asked the government to ensure that the masses are given enough information regarding the vaccines as there are a lot of hearsays regarding the matter.

“I encourage government to involve all stakeholders on the vaccinations plan moving forward and to communicate the right information regarding their safety and efficacy to Malawians,” pleaded Atupele.

He further added that now is the time all stakeholders should join forces with government and have a plan and roadmap for Covid-19 vaccines.

Economist Henry Kachaje, agreed with Atupele saying that sensitizing people on Covid-19 vaccines before it arrives is a priority as people are spreading false stories regarding the matter.

“You are very right Honorable. One of the key issues is to sensitize the masses. There is a lot of misinformation and conspiracies that need to be addressed before the vaccine arrives,” Kachaje said.

Government has said it will first procure vaccine for 20 percent of the country’s population adding that health workers a month others will be the first to receive the vaccine.
