Ntchisi Police Orders 33 people to pay k10,000 fine each or serve a 12 months Jail Term for contravening Covid-19 rules and regulations

About 33 people have been ordered to pay a fine of K10,000 each or in default to serve a 12 months jail term for contravening Covid-19 rules and regulations in Ntchisi District.

Police Prosecutor Patrick Phambana told the court that the convicts were arrested from February 6 to February 8 in the areas of Khuwi Trading Centre, Ng’ombe Trading Centre, Ntchisi District Hospital area and Ntchisi Boma respectively.

Appearing before court, they all pleaded guilty to the charge of contravening Covid-19 rules and regulations, contrary to section 20, Sub section 2, (A ) of Public Health Act.

First Grade Magistrate Dorothy Kaluwa ordered the 33 convicts to pay the fines or risk serving the 12 month jail term.

The convicts have since paid the fines.

And in a related development, a court sitting at Malomo in the district ordered two people to pay fines of K20,000 and K10,000 each for contravening Covid-19 rules and regulations.

Police Prosecutor Gift Banda told the court that the two, Lea Kalebe aged 28 and Maxwell Banda aged 25 were arrested at Malomo Trading centre.
