Blantyre butchery owners have asked the current administration of Tonse Alliance to provide loans to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to boost their businesses which are heavily affected by Covid-19.
Speaking in an interview, one of the butchery owners Davie Jullian Banda clarified that the outbreak of Coronavirus has greatly affected business industry as evidently seen the sales gone down.
He added that currently, situation is groomy as most business people are failing to fend for their families adding that many businesses are at the verge of collapse due to poor sales.
” We are even falling to buy family necesseties because we are not making adquate profits from our businesses,” complained Banda.
Banda however implored the current administration to look up into their demands and act urgently to rescue them, saying by doing so government will fulfill it’s promise made during campaign period.
Another business person in the premisses, Samuel matuwa said Covid-19 has paralyzed their businesses because restaurants were not operating as most workers were working from home due to the outbreak scare.
Matuwa added that another thing which has affected them is opening up of butcheries in different locations, saying this has reduced number of customers despite that those operating in townships operate without having toilets and kiosks as per requirement of the council.
Last year, President Lazarus Chakwera suspended the then Malawi Development Fund (MADEF) now National Economic Empowerment for Youth (NEEF) officials on allegation of mismanagement of funds.
