Groom Calls Off Wedding Over ‘Substandard Preparation’ For Pre-Engagement Ceremony

In a shocking incident reported from Palghar district of Maharashtra, a man allegedly called off his wedding after he got upset over the poor arrangements for the pre-engagement ceremony.

The incident took place in Wada taluka of Palghar last week. Meanwhile, police have booked the groom and his family after the girl’s parents filed a police complaint.

The events unfolded when the groom and his family, hailing originally from Bhiwandi and settled in Vasai, reached the girl’s place for pre-engagement ceremony. Later, the families exchange ‘Kumkum’ and planned on fixing a date for engagement, according to a report in Times of India.

At least 40 people including people from the girl’s village participated in the ceremony where food and gifts were offered to the groom’s family and relatives.

After the ceremony, the groom’s family made no decision on fixing the date of engagement and told the girl’s parents that they will get back to them.

Days later, the girl’s family contacted boy’s side but there was no response from them.

Later, it was communicated to the girl’s family that the pre-engagement ceremony was sub-standard and they were not taken care of properly.

It was then the girl’s family approached Wada police and filed a complaint against the groom and his family under Sections 420, 417 (cheating) and 500 (criminal defamation) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

So far, no arrest has been made in the case.
