AstraZeneca Vaccine; Experts Dismisses Blood Clotting Fears

Local experts have dismissed fears of blood clotting reportedly happening as a result of intake of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine.

This comes as countries such Denmark, Iceland, Norway and Thailand have suspended administering of the vaccine following cases of blood clotting after the vaccine has been administered.

Dr Mike Chisema, Immunization Programs Manager in the ministry of Health said a study has shown that there is no link between the vaccine and blood clot.

He has since assured Malawians that government is following the global events and a decision would be made if there was evidence of any risks.

However, Chisema has said that there has not been anyone who has reported not feeling well among the 90 people who got vaccinated during the launch of the Vaccine.

Meanwhile, Quasi-religious body PAC has appealed to the general public to trust messages from health experts on Covid-19 vaccine.

Bishop Gilford Matonga, Publicity Secretary for the Public Affairs Committee said it is unfortunate that people are attaching the use of the vaccine to religious teachings.

Matonga has since called on people to desist from spreading messages that are detrimental to the intake of the AstraZeneca Vaccine.
