The Office of the Ombudsman has commenced the investigations into the standard 8 selection to government secondary school after it faced heavy critic by some quarters.
The Minister of Education Science, and Technology (MoEST) Agness Nyalonje, in January this year announced the release of Primary school leaving certificate examination results which saw an 81.37 percent pass rate.
Despite the figures looking promising, only 37.3 percentage of learners made it to different government schools, a development that prompted a heated conversation on different platforms.
According to Nyalonje, this was due to the lack of secondary schools in the country, stressing the need for the construction of additional secondary schools as the top priority.
However, Ombudsman Martha Chizuma has confirmed that the investigations into the matter are underway following complaints rendered against the selection process.
Chizuma discloses that her office received the necessary documentation for the audit from the Ministry of Education in early February this year.
The investigations are to critically review processes involved in the examination results and secondary school selection processes of the 2020/2021 academic year.
