Phalombe District Council stops bank from paying MK180,000 school fees for bursary student

Phalombe District Council has stopped a bank from paying K180, 000 as school fees for one private secondary school student from a Constituency Development Fund (CDF) bursary.

This follows a complaint from chiefs that several needy students are failing to pay K6, 000 as tuition fees in public schools for each term.

The Chiefs have argued K180, 000 is a lot to be spent just for one student.

Spokesperson for the Council, Mathews Mkandawire, has acknowledged that the bursary guidelines do not provide for students in private schools.
