Man arrested for defiling stepdaughter in Mulanje

Police in Mulanje have arrested a 33-year-old man, identified as Ishmael Pochere for allegedly defiling his 11-year-old stepdaughter on March 12, 2021.

Pochere comes from Awali Village in the area of Senior Chief Mthiramanja in Mulanje and is expected to appear before court soon to answer defilement charges.

In the meantime, Mulanje Police Station Publicist, Gresham Ngwira condemned the acts saying defilement is high degree of irresponsibility.

“Let me warn everyone especially parents and guardians with such behaviour that the law will bite them once caught,” he said.

Recently Minister of Gender, Social Welfare and Community Development, Patricia Kaliati spoke tough on increasing defilement cases in Mulanje.

She condemned law enforcers that grant bail to perpetrators of defilement and rape at the expense of victims and entire community’s security.
