The family of late Bingu wa Mutharika on Monday evening held memorial prayers of the country’s former President and founder of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) who served the country from 2004 to 2012.

Bingu died of Cardiac Arrest on April 5, 2012 while serving as President of the Republic of Malawi.

Former First Lady Callista wa Mutharika confirmed of the development in an interview with the Press on Monday but could not disclose as to whether she was invited for the prayers.

Last year, the memorial service was cancelled due to a surge in COVID-19 cases in the country.
