DPP sues Chakwera, Zanga-zanga Chikhosi over Kunje and Manthanga’s firing

The opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has dragged to court President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and Chief Secretary to President Zanga-zanga Chikhosi over the firing of two Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Commissioners.

Government fired MEC Commissioner Linda Kunje and Jean Mathanga on grounds that the two were found incompetent by the Constitutional Court, according to the letter from the office of the President and Cabinet signed by Zanga-Zanga Chikhosi dated April 7, 2021.

The decision to fire the two has attracted mixed reactions with the opposition DPP dragging Chikhosi and Chakwera to court.

According to a court file seen by this publication, Chakwera is the first respondent in the case while Chikhosi is second responded.
